THE STORY
Over the weekend, a lot went down in
NYC and around the country.
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
On Saturday, an explosion in
New York City injured 29 people. All 29 of them were released
from the hospital. The bomb spread shrapnel and glass, and police say it
sent shock waves through the neighborhood. A few blocks from that
explosion, police found what they say looked like another explosive device that
didn’t go off.
WHAT ELSE?
Earlier in the day, a pipe-bomb
device exploded in a New Jersey town where a 5k to support
Marines was scheduled to happen. No one was injured. And then last night, police found five potentially
explosive devices inside a backpack in Elizabeth, NJ. One of the
bombs went off while police tried to disarm it, but no one was injured. Police
aren’t sure if the incidents in New Jersey and New York are related. No
one has taken responsibility for any of the bombs. Authorities said it’s not
likely that the NYC explosion is related to international terrorism, but
police are searching for suspects and motives.
ANYTHING ELSE?
Unfortunately, yes. On Saturday night, a man dressed
as a security officer stabbed nine
people at a mall in Minnesota. An off-duty police officer shot and
killed the suspect, and all of the victims survived the attack. ISIS claimed
responsibility.
