BIZ LAW The End of the Bezos (Plural) We’re not typically in the business of writing about breakups of the non-corporate variety, but this one really blurs the lines. After announcing their separation in January, Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos have “finished the process of dissolving” their marriage. We won’t bury the lede. Investors can breathe—Jeff Bezos will retain control of Amazon and is still the richest person in the world. And the two together give us hope some mutual breakups may *actually* be mutual. The details: Well, this is one way to make your Twitter debut... @mackenziebezos MacKenzie will give her new “co-parent and friend” 75% of their stock in Amazon (-0.10%), along with voting control of the shares she’s keeping. She’ll also hand over all of her interests in The Washington Post and Blue Origin. That’ll leave MacKenzie, who played an integral part in Amazon’s founding in the 1990s, with about $35.6 billion in Amazon stock and title of world’s fourth-richest woman. She’s retaining about 4% of the company’s outstanding common stock, making her Amazon’s third-largest shareholder.
