‘Phony scandal’ update: Strange Benghazi story gets even stranger
**Written by Doug PowersFirst, a casting announcement: Playing the part of Jay Carney today will be Lt. Frank Drebin:
An update to one of the “phony scandals” President Obama and Jay Carney like to dismiss:
CNN has uncovered exclusive new information about what is allegedly happening at the CIA, in the wake of the deadly Benghazi terror attack.
Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the assault by armed militants last September 11 in eastern Libya.
Sources now tell CNN dozens of people working for the CIA were on the ground that night, and that the agency is going to great lengths to make sure whatever it was doing, remains a secret.
CNN has learned the CIA is involved in what one source calls an unprecedented attempt to keep the spy agency’s
Benghazi secrets from ever leaking out.
Since January, some CIA operatives involved in the agency’s missions in Libya, have been subjected to frequent, even monthly polygraph examinationsThe goal of the questioning, according to sources, is to find out if anyone is talking to the media or Congress.
, according to a source with deep inside knowledge of the agency’s workings.
Read this for a little background on the CIA’s (or perhaps the administration’s) reportedly “unprecedented” efforts to keep this all under wraps.
Toward the end of the CNN story, there’s this:
Lawmakers also want to about know the weapons in Libya, and what happened to them. That’s been a theory held by many since the attack took place, and the more this “phony scandal” unfolds, it becomes an increasingly likely partial explanation. And that leads to a whole host of questions that hopefully will someday be answered for the sake of the families of the Americans who died there.
Speculation on Capitol Hill has included the possibility the U.S. agencies operating in Benghazi were secretly helping to move surface-to-air missiles out of Libya, through Turkey, and into the hands of Syrian rebels.
It does make a difference, in spite of claims to the contrary.
Update: If CNN publishes many more of these kinds of stories, Team Pantsuit might start to get a little uneasy about the documentary they’re producing.
