Elizabeth Warren on the Campaine Trail Yesterday, U.S. Senator and 2020 presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren announced an economic plan as part of an agenda called “economic patriotism.” Somehow, it doesn't involve giving Mark Zuckerberg a wedgie.  First, $$$. Warren wants tonee invest $2 trillion in clean energy and research over a decade to deal with climate change. Remember, she co-sponsored the Green New Deal, the most ambitious (and controversial) environmental legislation of the modern era. Who’s picking up the check? Warren says she’d pay for it by closing corporate tax loopholes, ending oil and gas subsidies, and adding a tax on corporate profits of more than $100 million. But a Moody’s analyst said her plan would still increase the deficit. It also means bucking the mainstream, monetary policy-wise. Warren is proposing protectionist ideas like “actively managing” the dollar and slapping tariffs on foreign goods. The political angle: Warren’s going for a moonshot, appealing to the left on climate and the Trump on trade. But she’s got company—Joe Biden also released a $1.7 trillion climate plan yesterday.
