Hunter, What did you Do?????

HE MAY YET TURN OUT TO BE THE GAVRILO PRINCIP OF THE 21ST CENTURY:

Hunter Biden Is a Geopolitical Disaster: His Ukraine dealings corrupted our government, impeached a president, and may have prefigured a war.

Mr. Biden was unlucky in his son, but he also allowed a family environment in which milking connection to Joe was de rigueur. Paralysis seizes our elite over what has ensued. Suppose a journalistic tick-tock were written today similar to 1969’s “On Borrowed Time,” Leonard Mosley’s microscopic account of events between the Munich Agreement of September 1938 and the invasion of Poland in September 1939. Today’s version would include: Hunter’s dealings in Ukraine, President Trump’s impeachment for asking about Hunter’s dealings in Ukraine, the laptop episode in which Russia was framed as an imaginary culprit to change the subject from Hunter’s dealings in Ukraine.

What did Vladimir Putin make of these events? How might they have figured in his bet that the U.S. would let Kyiv fall into his pocket? Maybe one day he’ll tell us.

Mr. Biden ultimately summoned the NATO muscle memory to stand up to Russia’s invasion, and this column congratulated him. But Republicans in an election year can rightly ask what else exactly was an American president supposed to do? They can also ask what Mr. Biden failed to do. His surrender on Nord Stream 2, after Mr. Trump quashed the pipeline, sent a message of appeasement. In the war’s opening days, his administration seemed unduly eager to cede Kyiv to the Russian advance and spirit President Zelensky to safety.

At some point, questions should also be asked of Barack Obama. Why allow Mr. Biden to control the Ukraine portfolio when he wouldn’t restrain his son? Was Biden family corruption the reason you skipped over your veep and endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016?

The story here is all the more remarkable for being untold. In short order, the Hunter mess has managed to taint our intelligence community, the FBI, IRS and now the Justice Department. If news sense is not completely dulled by neurotic compliance, some editors must also be starting to see the outlines of another approaching debacle, in which skeletons from the Biden closet elect Mr. Trump.

Neurotic compliance is all they have left.

The Intentionally Provocative Hunter Biden Plea Deal.

 ANDREW MCCARTHY:

The Intentionally Provocative Hunter Biden Plea Deal.

Biden apologists have tried to minimize that transaction as a “lie and try” case, which they say is often not prosecuted. But such non-prosecution (though it shouldn’t happen) occurs because of what you’d infer from the “try” part — i.e., the liar got caught and failed to obtain the gun. Hunter’s case, to the contrary, is a lie and succeed case. He got the gun. What’s more, he was then seen playing with it while cavorting with an “escort” (see the New York Post’s pictorial, if you’ve got the stomach for it). Shortly afterwards, he and his then-paramour — Hallie Biden, the widow of his older brother — managed to lose the gun near a school (it was later found by someone else).

Those are the kinds of gun cases that get charged by the Justice Department even if the suspect hasn’t, in addition, committed tax felonies by dodging taxes on the millions of dollars he was paid, apparently for being named Biden. Yet after refusing for years to appoint a special counsel despite the five-alarm conflict of interest attendant to investigating the president’s son ( . . . and family . . . and the president himself), the Biden Justice Department is permitting Hunter Biden to dispose of the case with misdemeanor tax charges that will allow for a probation sentence, and diversion — essentially, no prosecution — on the gun felony that would result in imprisonment for most Americans who engaged in similar conduct.

Quite a deal.

Last week, Trump was flirting with 60 percent in GOP primary polling after being indicted, with a 45-point lead in some surveys. Democrats seem bound and determined to get him to 70.

Deep Swamp - FBI (Following Red Wave 2022)

 BREAK UP THE FBI:

Roger Kimball: The FBI will not be forgiven after Tuesday: The House Republicans’ bruising report is a statement of intent.

People are not about to forget what the politicians and their bureaucrats just did to them. And if they do not forget, neither will they forgive.

Nor are they going to forget what the FBI has done and is doing to us. The dawn raids against non-violent political rivals of the regime and pro-life activists, the nationwide dragnets to nab people who protested against the 2020 election, the spying on Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, manufacture of forged evidence in order to mobilize the awesome surveillance apparatus of the state against American citizens and undermine Trump’s presidency. The bill of indictment is long and damning. How long? More than a thousand pages in its first iteration, which GOP members of House Judiciary Committee dropped on Friday under the title “FBI Whistleblowers: What Their Disclosures Indicate About the Politicization of the FBI and Justice Department.”

What they indicate is an agency that has gone rogue and should be dismantled. This has been a theme sounding for more than a years now. Roger L. Simon, writing for the Epoch Times, said that the FBI, like ancient Carthage, must be destroyed. Holman Jenkins, writing for theWall Street Journal, said that the agency to be abolished. I’ve argued the same case several times, here, for example, and here. In my column for the December Speccie, I suggest that FBI be relocated to Kansas City and have its budget cut by 75 percent. “Then,” I write, “it should be taken apart altogether,” not least because “a national police is probably unconstitutional certainly un-American”

With few exceptions, the consensus is that the Bureau is beyond reformation or reclamation. Friday’s lengthy J’Accuse underscores the moral bankruptcy and corruption of the FBI.

Examples need to be made. Painful ones, that will discourage this sort of conduct in the future.

What Becomes of the FBI? VDH

What Becomes of the FBI?

What Becomes of the FBI?

Victor Davis Hanson

Can the FBI be saved in its present form? Should it be disassembled, and its bureaus farmed out to other agencies? Should its headquarters be transferred to Kansas City, or maybe Fresno, Dayton, or Boise? Given its record of transgressions and lapses, would we miss its absence?

FBI/DOJ Jan 6th Trap (Julie Kelley)

FBI Jan 6th Trap

Of the more than 725 Americans arrested so far for various crimes related to the Capitol protest on January 6, 2021, nearly every defendant faces the same two misdemeanor charges: “entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds” and “disorderly conduct in a restricted building or grounds.”

The basis for the offenses is not, as the American people repeatedly have been told, that the building was closed to the public that day. After all, hundreds of people were allowed inside as Capitol police stood by; no signage or official announcements alerted the public that the building was off-limits.

Instead, the Justice Department has argued that the presence of both Vice President Michael Pence and incoming Vice President Kamala Harris rendered entry into the Capitol on January 6 a federal crime under 18 U.S. Code section 1752.

More Trouble for the FBI in the Whitmer Kidnapping Case

More Trouble for the FBI in the Whitmer Kidnapping Case

by Julie Kelly

The media went wild last week after Joe Biden’s Justice Department finally produced a criminal indictment to support the claim that January 6 was an “insurrection” planned by militiamen loyal to Donald Trump: Eleven members of the Oath Keepers, including its founder, Stewart Rhodes, face the rarely used charge of seditious conspiracy for their brief and nonviolent involvement at the Capitol protest that day.

DOJ CHARGES OATH KEEPERS WITH ‘SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY

DOJ CHARGES OATH KEEPERS WITH ‘SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY:’

Interestingly, the DOJ announcement describes the charges with reference to the statute’s inclusion of efforts to oppose or delay execution of a law, not its reference “to conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them …” But watch, the MSM and the Schumer/Pelosi crowd will frame it rhetorically as if the defendants are being charged with conspiracy to overthrow the government.

FBI REFUSES TO EXPLAIN FBI ROLE IN JANUARY 6:

FBI REFUSES TO EXPLAIN FBI ROLE IN JANUARY 6:

In September, the New York Times confirmed that FBI informants infiltrated the Proud Boys, an alleged militia group, and participated in the first breach of the Capitol perimeter right before 1 p.m. The man seen with the Proud Boys before the first intrusion was Ray Epps.

Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) asked Matthew Olsen, head of the Justice Department’s National Security Division, whether any plain-clothes officers were at the Capitol on January 6. Olsen, who announced today the formation of a domestic terror unit within DOJ, said he was not “aware” of any plainclothes officers within the crowd or inside the building on January 6. Cotton slammed Olsen for repeatedly refusing to give the committee specific answers. “Did you prepare for this hearing, did you know this hearing was happening before this morning, Cotton asked Olsen.

Cotton also pressed Olsen about Epps; Olsen deferred the question to Sanborn. “Do you really expect us to believe you’ve never heard the name Ray Epps, you don’t know anything about him?” Cotton asked. Olsen said he had “no information at all” about Epps.

Fortunately though, one man in Washington is on the case! ‘Just another misled man:’ Rep. Adam Kinzinger puts to rest all doubts about ‘Ray,’ says he apparently broke no laws so was let off.

Why Michael Horowitz Deserves the Medal of Freedom

Why Michael Horowitz Deserves the Medal of Freedom

When Barack Obama appointed Michael Horowitz to be the inspector general for the Department of Justice in April of 2012, it might have seemed a safe choice for the entitled petty nobility who really run things in Washington.

Horowitz earned his law degree from Harvard, magna cum laude, no less. Horowitz spent eight years as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York, nicknamed the “Sovereign District of New York,” for its ability to resist Republican presidents who think that winning an election gives them the right to run things. But there were signs even then that Horowitz wasn’t going to play ball.

In 1995, the Department of Justice awarded him the “Distinguished Service Award,” for his role in exposing and prosecuting a ring of dirty cops in the 30th Precinct of the New York Police Department. Horowitz is from a long-ago era; before law schools taught that the law is mere putty to be molded to achieve social and political objectives.

Within months of his appointment to the Justice Department inspector general role, Horowitz issued a stinging 514-page report on the notorious, “Operation Fast and Furious,” during which undercover federal agents supplied Mexican cartels with weapons. Within hours of that report, a dozen employees of the Department of Justice and the ATF faced punishment or retired in disgrace.

The Russia Collusion Hoax will stand as the greatest political scandal in American history, if history remains a thing after the revolution consolidates its control over the truth. But how did the conspiracy come to light?

Author Lee Smith wrote the definitive monograph detailing how Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) led a team of investigators to expose key elements of the conspiracy. We have their work to thank for uncovering the explosive bombshell that Hillary Clinton paid for the infamous Steele Dossier (read herehere, and here for the contemporaneous stories). But there was a parallel track that led to that unravelling of the explosive details of the government’s collusion with the DNC’s effort to frame Trump. And it all started with a request from a pair of Democratic Congressmen outraged over the FBI’s handling of the Anthony Weiner laptop.

In September of 2016, an FBI agent took possession of a laptop while investigating allegations that Anthony Weiner tried to entice underage girls into sexual activity. That laptop contained a cache of documents and emails between Hillary Clinton and her confidant Huma Abedin (who then was Weiner’s wife.) The mere existence of these emails seemed to contradict claims made by Clinton that she had either permanently deleted or disclosed her emails relevant to an investigation into her time as Secretary of State. The FBI went into cover-up mode ordering the agent to erase his computer and threatening him with prosecution if he shared the information outside the FBI.

But the FBI became concerned that it might get caught suppressing the story. So on October 28, 2016, then-FBI director, James Comey, notified Congress by letter that the FBI had uncovered new Clinton emails.

This pre-election October surprise enraged Democrats who initially saw the release as a political hit on Clinton. On November 4, 2016, the late Reps. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) and John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.), then ranking members of the House Committees in Oversight and Judiciary, wrote Horowitz a fateful letter demanding he investigate the FBI’s conduct during the investigation of the Clinton emails. Horowitz heeded the call but not to the effect hoped for by the Democrats.

The Russia collusion hoax perpetrators engineered a sweeping special counsel project to entice President Trump into “obstructing” the sham investigation into allegations, already known to be a hoax. In the summer of 2017, Horowitz approached the Mueller team with text messages he uncovered between two of the Mueller team members. Rather than finding a pro-Trump FBI bias as the Democrats suspected, Horowitz found explosive evidence of FBI agent Peter Strzok abusing his power to help Clinton in her investigation and harm Trump with a bogus Trump/Russia investigation. Mueller removed Strzok and his lover Lisa Page from the team. Following that, Mueller’s team made sure their phones were wiped—preventing any additional embarrassing texts from emerging.

Horowitz then fired bombshell after bombshell at the Russia collusion hoax project. We learned that the FBI commingled its political objectives with the investigations into Clinton and Trump. We learned that then-Director James Comey mishandled sensitive investigative information in order to take a shot at Trump. We learned the Deputy Director of the FBI, Andrew McCabe, lied to investigators about his role in a leak in order to deflect heat from himself. We learned that the FBI doctored emails to manipulate the FISA court. We learned how the Mueller team scrubbed Strzok and Page’s phones of incriminating texts.

The Justice Department circled the wagons as prosecutors repeatedly declined prosecution of the hoax perpetrators. But that wasn’t the fault of Horowitz. He uncovered ample evidence where journalists and prosecutors helped facilitate the coverup. If it hadn’t been for Horowitz, the Mueller team would have been totally unchecked. The hoax might have worked and the president likely would have been removed using the fabrications of a politicized FBI. The history of the last four years would have read much differently but for this quiet hero who saved the truth from powerful conspirators. More importantly, it will never work quite the same way again. Americans now understand that the Justice Department and the FBI are not to be trusted when political power is at stake.

When Horowitz finally leaves, there will be no complaining by a legacy media which cheered censorship of the true but politically-inconvenient Hunter Biden corruption stories. The FBI couldn’t care less about congressional oversight or the direction of the elected president. It’s a power unto itself, and thanks to Director Christopher Wray’s leadership, no longer appears capable of being embarrassed. After Horowitz, there will be little else to hold it accountable. So before the opportunity is lost forever, the president should thank him on behalf of the American people. Horowitz and his staff should receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Americans should know his name and his important work so that his successors might follow his example.
